Let’s get you ready to excel in your IELTS speaking.
1. Understand the Format
The test has 3 parts:
- Part 1: Introduction & personal questions
- Part 2: Long turn (you speak for 1–2 minutes on a topic)
- Part 3: Discussion (more complex, abstract questions)
Knowing what to expect reduces anxiety!
2. Practice Speaking Daily
You don’t need a fancy classroom—talk to yourself in English, describe your day, speak in front of a mirror, or practice with our dedicated coaches. Practice expressing opinions clearly and naturally.
3. Expand Your Vocabulary
Use words that are specific and expressive, but don’t force big words. Aim for accuracy and variety. Try replacing basic words like “good” or “bad” with “impressive,” “challenging,” “fulfilling,” etc.
4. Focus on Fluency and Coherence
Speak smoothly and logically. Even if you pause, do it naturally—not with long silences. Use linking words like however, therefore, actually, as a result to organize your thoughts.
5. Work on Pronunciation
Clear speech matters more than a native accent. Practice word stress and intonation. Listening to English podcasts, news, or YouTube interviews helps.
6. Record Yourself
This is a game-changer! Record your responses and listen for areas to improve—are you repeating words? Speaking too fast? Getting stuck?
7. Take Mock Interviews
Practice with a friend or tutor. If you can, record a Zoom or WhatsApp call where someone plays the examiner role.
8. Don’t Memorize Answers.
Examiners know when you’re reciting a script. Be real. Be relatable. Be ready to improvise when needed.
Final tip? Confidence is key. Speak like someone who belongs in the conversation!
